Dr David Haynes
Dr Haynes has been working in the field of medical research since 1977 - initially on intestinal immunity, and then mainly on the cell biology of the macrophage and monocyte lineage. He has published extensively on immunomodulation via cytokines and prostanoids. Since the late 1980's, Dr Haynes has also investigated prosthesis loosening and developed in vitro and in vivo systems to study wear particle responses, resulting in several influential publications in this area. Dr Haynes has extensive research experience in the cell biology of the macrophage and monocyte lineage, and the immunomodulatory effects of cytokines. He is currently investigating the expression of many recently-identified cytotoxicity factors in the TNF Superfamily (e.g. TRAIL and its receptors and decoys, Osteoprotegerin and RANK/RANKL interactions), in several bone and inflammatory pathologies. Dr Haynes has been a chief investigator on more than 10 successful NH&MRC and ARC grants on pharmacological regulation of inflammatory cytokines, osteoclast biology, biomaterials and the cell biology of implant loosening. As chief investigator, Dr Haynes has also negotiated several recent research grants from these commercial sources and is currently chief investigator on 5 major government and commercial grants. Dr Haynes also has a strong involvement in teaching Pathology to Medical, Dental and Health Science students in the Division of Heath Sciences, University of Adelaide.
