Brief Profile:
Dr. Yin Xiao is an associate professor at the Institute of Health and Biomedical Innovation, Queensland University of Technology. His research interest is to induce bone and cartilage regeneration by understanding cell and molecular biology of skeleton development and using the concept of tissue engineering to apply mesenchymal stem cell based therapy. He has published 37 referenced papers and 29 conference presentations.

Brief Profile:
Prof. Fazzalari was awarded his BAppSci in 1972, a BSc (Hons) on X-ray crystallography of DNA in 1974 and a postgraduate DipEd in 1975. His PhD on the three dimensional spatial reconstruction of the left ventricle and analysis of ventricular geometry was conferred in 1987. Following completion of his studies at the University of Adelaide, he worked as a high school teacher for the Education Department of South Australia before joining the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science as a Medical Scientist in 1978. He was promoted to Senior Medical Scientist in 1983 and Principal Medical Scientist in 1989, and was subsequently appointed to his present position as Chief Medical Scientist in the Division of Tissue Pathology. He manages the Bone Research, Bone Histology, Tissue Morphometry and Image Analysis, Immunocytochemistry and Electron Microscopy laboratories.

Brief Profile
Associate Professor Paul Smith is an Orthopaedic Surgeon at The Canberra Hospital and at John James Memorial Hospital in Canberra. He is also Co-Director of the Trauma and Orthopaedic Research Unit at The Canberra Hospital. He has recently been honoured by The Knee Society, receiving the inaugural John N Insall Travelling Fellowship in knee surgery and has been appointed as Associate Professor in Orthopaedic Surgery at the ANU Medical School.

Dr Smith received his medical and surgical training in Adelaide before specialising in hip and knee joint reconstructive and replacement surgery. He was a Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Travelling Fellow in 1996 and 1997 with Fellowships in joint replacement surgery at the University of Western Ontario in Canada and at The Princess Elizabeth Orthopaedic Hospital in England. Dr Smith's particular clinical interests are in reconstruction and replacement surgery of the hip and knee, complex revision joint replacement surgery and management of pelvic and acetabular injuries.
